Isa Heller is an independent pop songwriter born and based in New York City. Though they learned the nuances of pop production from a major label deal signed at age 18. Their newest music is the culmination of a more holistic approach. “The sounds of the world around me," they say, are at the heart of Feather, their debut full-length solo album scheduled for an independent release in the summer of 2026. "Paradoxically, that connection was born from my efforts to silence them," Isa says. "As a producer, I’ve spent countless hours building out studios, trying to shut out the sounds of the world around me using bass traps, diffusers, absorption to “deaden” space, and make the listening and recording environment as “controlled” as possible."Instead, Feather showcases understanding of the body earned through pushing their voice to the brink. The breadth of their audiovisual work—as a choreographer, lighting designer, animator, and singer and producer in pop band Crisis Public Relations—as well their gender transition, and more than a decade of work in New York's DIY pop scene culminate in this return to the pop stage. Feather turns environmental recordings from ultrasonic microphones into earworms. Previous single "Breeze," began as a recording of a truck reversing outside of their Brooklyn studio, and eventually bloomed into an orchestra. "I began asking myself: Instead of shutting out the world, what would it look like to embrace my surroundings, to place my work in conversation with them?" Isa said of their modus operandi. "Instead of exerting control, what would it mean to embrace the spaces in which we create?”
